54 Chinese Apps Banned. As the border tensions persist, the government has moved to prohibit 54 more Chinese-made apps. They have cited that they represent a “threat to India’s security.” Although the government has yet to formally reveal the complete list of 54 apps, news agency ANI has confirmed the names of 11 Chinese apps among the 54.
The latest list of banned apps consists primarily of clones of apps that were banned in India since 2020. Some of the previously prohibited apps have discreetly rebranded and relaunched in India. With 54 more banned apps, the total number of apps blocked listed by the Indian government is about 324.
The apps that have been so far confirmed include the following Beauty Camera Apps: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Driver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite, and Tencent Driver.
Authorities have made no formal comment. Sea, which is headquartered in the southeast Asian city of Singapore, also offered no immediate comment.
India has banned a total of 321 apps since political tension first flared with its giant neighbour in 2020, leading to the South Asian nation’s initial ban on 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok.
