CM Mamata Banerjee says that Almost 1 crore people in Bengal have been affected, and 3 lakh houses have been damaged due to cyclone Yaas.
Today(May 26), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that due to the severe weather caused by Hurricane Yaas, almost 1 crore people had been affected by the natural disaster in Bengal. So far, 300,000 houses have been damaged.
She also added that a person died unexpectedly even after being rescued. The relief supplies worth 10 crore rupees were sent to the affected areas. The Meteorological Department of India said that Hurricane Yaas began making landfall near the port of Dhamra in Odisha on Wednesday morning and that now that process is complete.
The nearby resorts of Mandarmani, Tajpur, and Shankarpur were also flooded with water from the sea, which flowed into hotels and roads, causing a lot of damage to kutcha shops and houses.
The Chief Minister said: “I will soon conduct aerial reconnaissance of the disaster-affected areas in Purba Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas.” “We will conduct field research to get the final estimate. It will take at least 72 hours to get a clearer idea,” she added.
It destroyed many houses in Orissa and West Bengal. And In some areas, the waves even surpassed the tops of the coconut trees on either side of these popular beaches. This cyclone even caused the forced closing of the very busy Kolkata airport.
