In their constituency, former Patiala Mayor Vishnu Sharma runs against former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Vishnu Sharma considers his development efforts to be a strength, and he plans to engage people to solicit votes and address developmental concerns. Sharma has also made the captain’s absence a point of contention for the constituency and its residents.
You’re up against a heavyweight contender. How are you persuading people to vote for you?
I’ve been doing work for the people here for quite some time. Within the constituency, people are familiar with me, and I am also familiar with them. In the name of development, I’m asking for their votes.
In these elections, how do you differ from Captain Amarinder Singh?
My biggest strength, I believe, is my availability. I am available to my folks anytime they want my assistance. I’ve always been there for the people when they’ve needed me, but Captain Sahib has never shown up in his constituency. He didn’t even interact with the folks. The public was fed up with this type of behavior.
It is often assumed that the inhabitants of Patiala supported the palace (the royal family). Do you agree with me?
Well, I’d want to point you that it’s a perception, and the people of Patiala will respond on March 10. On the day of the election results, you will undoubtedly receive an answer to this question.
What major projects did you undertake in Patiala during your stint as mayor?
Between 2002 through 2007, I served as the mayor of Patiala. During my tenure, a lot of work was accomplished. The city’s nullahs (drains) were all covered, a huge comfort to the population. Another significant triumph was relocating an old scrap market out of the town.
