Congress Goa chief slams central government over bad ranking, in Global Hunger Index(GHI)
Congress chief Amit Patkar lashed out at the Central government after India received the 107th position in the Index. The rank was even after countries like Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in the Global Hunger Index (GHI). He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the slogan of ‘Na khaunga, na khane doonga’, and that slogan has turned into reality.
Patkar claimed that the BJP governments in Goa, Haryana, and other states contributed to PM Modi’s agenda to promote his friend to be the second richest person in the world. Also claimed that in doing this, they pushed India to 107th position in the Global Hunger Index.
Patkar said the BJP receives funding from the capitalists to buy members of the legislative assembly (MLAs).The BJP helps them by approving the mega projects of capitalists, which cause destruction to the environment, forests, and wildlife. Common people are suffering from this bargaining.
The government denied the report
On the other hand, the Indian government denies the GHI report 2022 and says that it was disconnected from ground reality and didn’t show the reality. The Index is a wrong measure of hunger. It is suffering from serious methodological issues, the government stated.
A statement by the government of India read after the release of the outcomes, “the report isn’t only disconnected from ground reality, but also ignores efforts made by the government to ensure food security for the population, especially during the COVID pandemic,”
CPI(M) slammed the Center for not recognizing the report
CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury also yesterday, slammed the Center for not recognizing the said report. He said that the present BJP government is not ready to accept any international reports or figures.
“In every area, our country is declining. Today, there is a high unemployment rate in our country. Look at the declining economic scale. This government has only propaganda that is going on in the form of politics of violence. There is an atmosphere of fear all around us” Yechury noted.
“The government says that there are 121 nations and they all agreed to the Hunger Index. However, our government no longer accepts this true as it confirmed a decline. It is well known that crores of people have become poor after COVID-19 pandemic. The Centre government is busy in giving tax-relief and loans to the rich, instead of giving relief to those who lost their everything during this pandemic” CPI(M) leader said during a talk to the news agency ANI.
