In the wake of continuous fuel prices hike across the country, Karnataka Congress leaders staged a protest on Thursday in Bengaluru. Leaders including KPCC President D K Shivakumar, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah were seen protesting against the hike on fuel prices. Following this, protests were also witnessed in the national capital as Several Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi protested, agitating against skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices.
This came after petrol and diesel prices jumped for the 9th time in the span of 10 days, taking the overall hike to Rs 6.40 per liter. Apart from petrol and diesel prices, LPG prices have also increased.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will begin his two-day visit to Karnataka from on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi will attend the 115th Sri Shivakumar Swamiji Jayanti at Tumkur, Karnataka and is likely to hold meetings with frontal organizations, state leaders, KPCC and all senior leaders in the state, confirmed senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive in Bengaluru at around 2 pm and would leave for Tumakuru by road in the afternoon and pay his respects to the late pontiff of the Siddaganga Math, who passed away in January 2019 at the age of 111.
“After the program, Gandhi will participate in the meeting of Congress leaders under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike jurisdiction.
He will also hold a Zoom meeting with legislators, former MLAs and defeated candidates,” Congress leader DK Shivakumar said. On April 1, Gandhi would participate in the KPCC’s extended executive committee meeting at the party’s state headquarters. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Bengaluru on April 5 has been cancelled, BJP sources said on Wednesday.
