A ruckus has arisen over the installation of Veer Savarkar’s photo in the Karnataka Assembly hall. Against this, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and other leaders of congress protested outside the Vidhan Sabha.
Veer Savarkar’s picture in the Karnataka Assembly hall created a political storm at the recent assembly session, with the opposition besieging the ruling BJP regarding the picture. Congress leaders alleged that the ruling party ‘BJP’ wanted the proceedings of the House not to go on, so it itself wanted to create disruptions. Karnataka Congress President and MLA DK Shivakumar said that they wanted to raise many cases of corruption against the government, so they brought this picture and created a controversy. They have no agenda for development.
Opposition leaders, including former chief minister and current leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah, demonstrated and staged a sit-in outside the assembly to protest against the ruling Basavaraj Bommai government’s decision to unveil Veer Savarkar’s portrait in the assembly. Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah, in a letter to the Speaker, requested for the installation of portraits of personalities like Valmiki, Basavanna, Kanaka Das, BR Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and others.
Karnataka Congress chief and legislator DK Shivakumar accused the state government of trying to disrupt the proceedings of the assembly through such moves. They said They (BJP) want that our assembly should not function. They want to disrupt it. They have brought this photo because we will raise many corruption issues against them. They do not have any development agenda.
Put pictures of Valmiki, Ambedkar and Patel as well
Congress leader Siddaramaiah wrote a letter to the speaker demanding that Valmiki, Basavanna, Kanaka Das, B. R. Pictures of Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and other leaders should also be put up.
Siddaramaiah also said that it was not our protest but demand that photographs of other social reformers should also be displayed in the assembly hall. The speaker has arbitrarily put only Savarkar’s picture. He said, ‘I am not against putting anyone’s picture. The state government takes such steps to divert the attention of the people from all the real issues including law and order.
Savarkar a controversial personality: Siddaramaiah
Earlier, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had described Savarkar as a controversial personality. He said that no invitation was given to me regarding the unveiling of this picture. This is the agenda of the BJP. He alleged that Savarkar was involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He is a controversial personality.
This is not the first time a controversy has arisen in the country regarding Veer Savarkar. Even before this many controversies have arisen in the country regarding him. Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that on one side there is Veer Savarkar in the country, and on the other side there is a fight between the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi.
