AAP’s unexpected victory in Punjab stuns Congress and all other parties at the national level.
On Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party won 92 of the 117 assembly seats in the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022. The runner-up, Congress, earned 18 seats. While Shiromani Akali Dal only obtained three.
AAP politician Bhagwant Mann will be the state’s new Chief Minister. Bhagwant Mann, the AAP’s chief ministerial candidate, won the Dhuri Assembly seat by more than 58,000 votes.
Mann congratulated the people of Punjab in his first address after winning the election. He stated that his party would work together to bring the state back on track to progress.
After losing their seats, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and former CM Amarinder Singh congratulated the AAP on its win.
Congress in Worst Crisis
Congress has lost nine of the ten assembly elections held in the last two years. The failure of Congress to win Assembly elections creates a deep crisis for the party.
It has recently lost at least five potential young leaders. And this has been reduced to governing only two states on its own. The party’s inability to win elections has sparked rebellion and disagreement among its members.
One of the main reasons for Punjab Congress’s poor performance in the state election, according to Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Gurinder Singh Bali, is internal conflicts inside the party.
Bali told the Congress party to bring in some discipline within the party. When election results got declared on Thursday, the Punjab Congress party office in Chandigarh remained empty. Only a few party workers and a few employees were present in the office building.
Punjab reflects Congress’ failure and shows the party’s faulty decision-making techniques and politically incorrect judgments.
Political analysts see Arvind Kejriwal’s victory as a vote of confidence in him as a future national leader to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
