A special CBI court on Thursday has rejected the application of interim medical bail to Dheeraj Wadhawan who was arrested by the CBI in the month of April 2022, for the alleged involvement in the private sector bank scam. This scam is regarded as one of the biggest bank frauds in the country.
Rejected the Interim bail but allowed Medical Treatment at a Private Hospital:
The Interim application came before the Special Court in Mumbai on Thursday where Justice MG Deshpande has rejected the interim medical bail but allowed the medical treatment to be taken at a private hospital.
Wadhawan Brothers was sent to Judicial Custody in April 2022:
Dheeraj Wadhawan was one of the promoters of then existed company DHFL along with Kapil Wadhawan. In the month of June, they were sent to Judicial custody under Prevention of Money Laundering Act for allegedly involving in the one of the biggest bank loan fraud case which is said to be committed in the Yes bank.
Court asked Wadhawan not to Prolong His Stay in the Hospital:
The Special Court on Thursday has asked the accused not to prolong his stay in the hospital for a heart related ailment after refusing to grant interim medical bail but allowed him to be admitted in a private hospital to undergo treatment for his hear related problem.
Court Directed the CBI to designate an Official to Monitor Wadhawan:
The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appoint an official at the hospital where Wadhawan would be admitted and the official should monitor him during his stay at the hospital.
Wadhawan Has Misused the Relief Granted Last Time:
Special Public Prosecutor AM Chimalkar, was opposing the grant of interim bail by citing the previous instance which took place when the interim relief was granted last time.
Case Was Registered and Chargesheet was filed in Delhi for Misusing the Relief Last time:
SPP has stated that last time when Wadhawan was granted relief in 2021 he misused the liberty and sold some paintings for which a case was registered and a charge sheet is filed against him.
The Accused Denied the Treatment Offered to Him:
The SPP also stated that the accused was taken to the hospital for treatment from prison but, on his own accord he had refused to get treated there and by stating this he asked the court not to grant any relief to Dheeraj Wadhawan.
Wadhawan Brothers and Rana Kapoor cofounder of Yes Bank Accused of Committing Biggest Private Sector Bank Scam:
The promoters of then DHFL company now known by the name of Piramal Finance was arrested for allegedly involving in the fraud at the private sector bank.
Yes Bank cofounder Rana Kapoor and his family members are also accused to have involved in this bank fraud case along with the Wadhawan brothers.
Scam involving Thousands of Crores was said to be Carried out Between the Month of April and June of 2018:
According to the CBI’s FIR the financial fraud is said to have taken place between the month of April and June of 2018.
This all begun when Yes Bank has invested Rs.3700 crore in the DHFL in the form of short- term debenture.
In return the Wadhawan has paid back Rs.600 crore to former Yes Bank Cofounder Rana Kapoor and his family members in the form of giving loans to DoIT Urban Ventures (India) Pvt. Ltd, a firm controlled by the wife and daughters of Rana Kapoor, the CBI claimed.
Wadhawan Brothers Faces Prosecution from Both CBI and ED:
The Wadhawan Brothers have been in custody in various cases. Currently they are facing Prosecution charges from both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate Department in connection with the Yes bank – DHFL scam.
