A new vaccine has been developed in ICAR- National Research center in Haryana and it is for animals. It is a great breakthrough in pet’s health. According to the center, this COVID-19 vaccine is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 delta vaccine which neutralizes the delta as well as omicron variants.
The country’s first indigenously developed vaccine for animals is secure for dogs, leopards, lions, mice, cats and rabbits. There is covid-19 diagnosing kit apart from the vaccine. The ICAR said that the CAN-CoV-2 ELISA Kit is a sensitive and specific nucleocapsid protein based indirect Kit for antibody detection against SARS-CoV-2 in canines.
According to the reports, there is no need for lab animals to prepare the antigens. Also, as per ICAR there is no other comparable kit currently in the market for COVID-19 for detection of antibodies in canines.
COVID-19 Vaccine for animals
Head of Veterinary services at DCC Animal Hospital, Dr. Vinod Sharma said that it is a very positive development in pet health and people should talk about pet health. He also said, “all animals are at danger of various types of zoonotic diseases and this COVID-19 vaccination is a good move to handle that and keep animals safe. Let’s do our share to keep our animals safe too. After all, both animals and humans are important to each other”.

Besides India, Russia and US have developed COVID- 19 vaccines for animals.
