Covid cases are increasing at an alarming rate in several countries of the world is a matter of concern. Countries like China experiencing the worst outcomes of their ‘Zero Covid Policy’. Hospitals are full, Beds are overridden, piles of deceased bodies are amounting and the situation is worst.

The covid surge in China

In the last few weeks in China, infection cases are increasing rapidly. The situation has become worst now, the variant of Covid is Omicron which is responsible for the havoc in China. China is facing a worst-case scenario since the Wuhan outbreak in 2019.

In Bejing, the capital city of China, large-scale mass testing has started. Around 20 million people will undergo for Covid tests. The authorities have taken this decision to tackle and contain the spread of Omicron.
In other districts of China, the death toll is rising amid the strict lockdowns and other anti-Covid measures. The Omicron wave of Covid in China is rapidly spreading despite China’s strict and oddish measures.

Why Covid is spreading in China?

China has been known for its crippling measures and strict policies against Covid during the first outbreak in 2019 and successfully sailed the country distant from the havoc of Covid. At a time when most countries of the world were experiencing wave after wave, it remained relatively free of those surges throughout 2021.

A large population of the Country remains unaffected during the 2020 wave. Which has now become a problem in itself. At the start of 2022, the emergence of Omicron cases in the country begins, and daily infection cases grow faster day by day from a few hundred to thousands of cases.
The lack of herd immunity is one of the major reasons which are the cause of this worstness as a large chunk of its population remains unaffected by infection and hence did not develop natural resistance against the virus.

The failure of the Covid policy in China 

The restrictor containment policy which the government adopted earlier is now in a dubious state. Citizens in many districts of China are now protesting against the government. Shanghai, one of the wealthiest cities in China is now witnessing the emergence of voices against the government amid strict social media norms.

The country had pursued a zero covid policy in the first place. It contained its citizen both symptomatic and asymptomatic under hospitalization and behind the chained phase of restricted lockdowns. These measures helped China and kept covid surge as low as possible. But now this policy itself has become the problem.

Chinese vaccines are not proven efficient against the virus. And when Omicron stepped into China it spread like ‘fire in the wild’. The lack of herd immunity as the consequence of the zero covid policy now has become a major problem and is therefore responsible for this havoc.

Other Countries are gearing up against Covid 

Other countries of the world are not in the same situation as China but scientists have warned about the spread. It could happen anytime soon as the virus is mutating continuously. Everyone is cautious and is closely watching the progress in China. If the situation becomes worse then restrictions and precautions must be implemented as soon as possible.

In India, NK Arora, the chairman of the COVID-19 working group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) has said, ‘Nothing to worry about.’ He said Indians do not need to panic, the country is vigilant about the situation. People in India are safe due to hybrid immunity.

Amid the uncertainty, the other countries of the world are vigilant too. They are keeping a close eye on the situation in China. At this time of year in the last week of December, the gathering and crowd are the ultimate situations because of Christmas and New Year. So, if there is any possibility of the spread of contamination then the people should be aware of this.

The world has hardly overcome the consequences of the Covid pandemic and now normalcy has come back. Economies, health, social sectors, etc. are on boom once again but if the Chinese situation crosses its boundary then there will be a problem for the world.
