Matter of womenÂ
India is a developing country with lots of dreams to conquer. India wants to be counted in the list of the top countries but will it be possible with such horrific crimes against half per cent of the population? The crimes recorded in recent times against women have shaken the nation to its core. The nation now wants the answer about the maintenance of law and order. It is a shame for a country like India where we consider women as goddesses and are treated in such a way. The fearlessness in the criminal’s mind is the root of such crimes. Not just the police but the judiciary too should be in great action against it.

On average leaving the cases which are not even heard and spoken out of fear and shame, India registers seven cases of molestation and at least 6 cases of rape a day in the year 2022. The cases of crime against women are increasing with constant speed, year by year the number of reported cases has increased. Delhi has registered more than 1100 rape cases in half of the month the police reports.
In 2021 the cases of crime registered against women were over 4.28 lakh, which reflects a total increase of 15.3%. The National Crime Records Bureau reported a decline in cases in 2019 -2020Â when the world was hit by the pandemic. It was the result of repeated lockdowns in the country.
The fact says the increase in 2021Â in cases of crime is significantly higher than the previous year of 7.3% recorded in 2019. In 2021, the crime rate registered per lakh women population was 64.5 in 2021 and much higher in comparison with 56.5 in 2020. The crime rate was 62.3 in 2019 and 58.8 in 2018.
It is pertinent to highlight that the significant increase in cases registered and crime rate in 2021 follows a much discussed overall dip in the number of cases of crime against women in 2020 amid lockdowns and restrictions. At that time much concern was raised over the risks to victims of domestic violence in particular as they suffer within their homes in silence in many cases not being in a position to step out and report it.
The majority of cases of crime against women under the Indian Penal Code too were registered. The cases include cruelty by the husband or his relatives. Account for over 1.36 lakh cases in 2021 which is 2% higher than that of 2020.

Unfortunately, girls below this age limit were also included, a total of 53 girls below 6 years of age. The report in a separate section lists cases of murder with rape and gang rape and puts the number of incidents at 284 involving 293 victims in 2021.
The cases of crime against women in recent times are increasing with great speed. The religious factor that is a crime due to religious matters has also increased.Â
The recent case includes a girl who was threatened with death after she ran from her husband’s home after she found out that the name and religion of the boy were fake. This was not just one case but one among many.
Having a look at the current situation, the government should take strict actions for the safety of women and give them the assurity that they are safe in their own home, that is India. And take soon action against the culprits.
