Sir Bradley Wiggins has fondly remembered his unique accomplishment of winning the Tour de France and Olympic gold in the same year in 2012.
- The Tour de France 2022 season begins on July 1 in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.
- Sir Bradley Wiggins, a former British cycling hero, has recounted his remarkable accomplishment of winning the Tour de France and Olympic gold in less than a decade. Whenever it needs to come to achieving success, Wiggins is among the greatest of all time, by being the sole cyclist to hold World and Olympic crowns on track and road, as well as a Tour de France victory.
Wiggins reflected on the time he wore the winning Yellow Jersey, saying, “I’m astonished it’s been 10 years.” It went by so quickly. There has been so much change in that period. But I believe it’s very good that I’m in the situation that I am now, for which I am glad. I don’t overthink anything or make any notes or anything like that. However, the only thing I remember is the day I won, which my kid reminded me of the other day. He’s as obsessed with the sport as I was when I was 17.” He went on to discuss the amazing achievement he accomplished in 2012, as well as his interaction with his son.
“He mentioned the Tour de France’s last Friday is July 22nd, which is the day I won the Tour.” There are two dates that I will never forget. I believe it was the 22nd and 1st of August 2012, which was the Olympics Time Trial in London, and as I stated on that day, I don’t think it will ever get as wonderful as that. Ten days after winning the Tour, I competed in the Olympic Games in London.”
As questioned about this year’s Tour de France, Sir Bradley explained how cyclists would adjust to the cobblestone stage by noting, “I doubt many would do so today. Everyone appears to have done their research in this respect, in my opinion. It was fantastic to see Primoz (Roglic) and Pogacar at the Tour of Flanders. I honestly never expected him to come in second.
“In the end, I believe he came in fourth place. But he was truly amazing. So, Geraint Thomas has already finished in the top ten at Paris-Roubaix. So I think it’s become a part of the tour preparation for most people today.” The Tour de France’s exciting 21 stages are scheduled to begin with a spectacular time trial stage 1 in Copenhagen.
