In the Kendrapara area of Odisha, police reported on Wednesday that-
a 32-year-old Dalit man was allegedly forced to rub his nose in his own spit in front of a town sarpanch and local residents after he allegedly refused to pay a gift for the establishment of a god in a sanctuary.
•The incident:
The occurrence took to put on Saturday evening when Chameli Ojha, sarpanch of Tikhiri town beneath Marshaghai police station, went to Gurucharan Mallick’s house, looking for a gift for the sanctuary. When Mallick said that he had as of now given to the god, the sarpanch purportedly manhandled him and his spouse, Rekha, police said.
• Affirmations by the complainant:
Rekha, who recorded a complaint with the police on Sunday, said a sarpanch assembly on Sunday at first chose to boycott her family. Afterward, the sarpanch and local people constrained Gurucharan (that dalit man) to rub his nose in his possess spit, she alleged.
“…he had to do what the town committee requested him to do,” Rekha said. Dismissing the affirmations, Ojha said: “All these charges against me are unfaithful. We have not done any such thing.”
• Conclusion:
Marshaghai police station inspector-in-charge, PK Kanungo, said a case beneath different segments of the Indian Corrective Code and Segment 3 of Planned Caste and Planned Tribe (Anticipation of Abominations) Act, 1989 have been held up against the sarpanch and few villagers.
“We are still examining the case. We’ll make captures, on the off chance that necessary,” he said.
