The Farmers have started assembling at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to demand MSP and other issues in farming production.
What is expected
There are signs, according to sources, that several farmers hailing from different states of the nation are going to participate in the rally. The number of peasants who would participate in the rally is by far estimated to be more than 50,000.
Who is organizing the rally
The rally is being conducted by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh which is one of the Hindu Nationalist Organizations that originated from another volunteer organization Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh.
What the General Secretary of BKS has to say
The General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Mohini Mohan Mishra said, “Even after 75 years of independence, farmers are still waiting for justice. At least they should get a remunerative price on a cost basis”. “Our rally aims to open the eye of the government. We will see if it happens with the peaceful rally. Else, we will explore other ways” he added.
The Delhi Traffic Police issues a list advisory for Delhi commuters and warns them about the traffic inconveniences they would face on Monday as a large number of people would participate in the rally along with the participation of hundreds of buses and thousands of private means of transportation. The traffic advisory stated, “Park your vehicles only at designated parking lots. Avoid roadside parking as it causes hindrance to normal flow traffic”.
Farmer’s demand
Through the public expression termed as the ‘Kisan Garjana’ rally, the farmers seek demands that they had also made in the past. This time the farmers want the government to allow them farmers for commercial production of crops that were genetically modified so that the farmers would benefit from the updated crops.
Such crops that could withstand unfavorable environmental conditions could provide farmers with better yields and greater profits. The farmers also seek for removal of GST from all of their farming activities. Through this rally, the farmers again want to draw the attention of the government to the problems faced by the farmers.
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh also said, “Our rally aims to open the eye of the government. We will see if it happens with the peaceful rally. Else, we will explore other ways”. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Executive Committee member Nana Akhre said, “In order to address the woes of the farmers, the BKS demands profitable prices on all the farm produce. Also, Goods and Services Tax (GST) should not be levied on the farm produce and the financial relief provided under the Kisan Samman Nidhi should be increased”.
