A woman in her early twenties succumbed to her injuries and died after she jumped off a 40-foot-high sidewall of a Metro Station in Delhi.
A ruckus erupted after a 25-year-old woman jumped off a 40-foot-high elevated platform of the Akshardham Metro Station in Delhi. In a heroic scene, as the officials call it, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and others saved the woman. Unfortunately, during her treatment, she died on Friday morning due to multiple injuries.
The woman hailed from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and was noticed at the edge of Platform No. 2 around 7.30 am on a Thursday morning. A CISF personnel saw her and immediately rushed to the spot. He had informed the shift head, who later told the metro controller, station controller, cluster inspector, and in charge and inspector. They immediately informed the nearby police station, and called for an ambulance.
In a viral video, it is seen that the officer tried to convince her multiple times to get down, but it was inevitable as she wouldn’t budge. A team, including the shift in charge, another CISF personnel, and the other four staff members from the nearby mall, ran to the ground and made arrangements to catch her safely with the help of a thick blanket.
“Madam, come down, please, madam, come down,” were the pleas heard in the viral video. Despite all the efforts to persuade her, the woman jumped off the edge but was rescued by the team. The woman was conscious and had multiple injuries, including her leg.
She was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Doctors who led her treatment said she received multiple fractures on her back and leg due to the severity of the fall. She was declared dead around 8-9 pm on Thursday after succumbing to her injuries. “We suspect she had severe internal injuries due to the fall,” said the investigating officer.
During the investigation, the police have ‘unconfirmed’ reports that suggest she was deaf and mute. The intention behind her attempt to suicide is unknown, but the investigation says that the woman had lost her job a few days back.
