On Wednesday, In a shocking turn of events, the incident of firing was reported at the Tis Hazari court in Delhi. According to Delhi Police, the shooting took place after some lawyers engaged in heated arguments.Fortunately, the Delhi police reached the spot on time, and no injuries were reported in the firing incident.
Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi, KK Manan condemned the firing incident and further assured the public that a detailed inquiry would be launched into the matter, and additionally stated that no lawyer can use weapons like this within or near the court premises.
While a detailed inquiry into the matter will be undertaken, he also further stated that there will also be an investigation about the weapons being licensed or not. He was quoted saying that irrespective of whether the weapons being licensed or not it does not warrant them to deploy weapons in such a manner within the court premises.
Viral video
A video circulating online captured the incident, supposedly depicting an individual dressed in a lawyer’s attire firing a gun into the air, while others in similar attire can be seen throwing stones at each other. The two groups, predominantly wearing white shirts, can be assumed as lawyers belonging to the brawling two groups were seen carrying sticks and also hurling abuse at one another.
In another video, bullet shells can be seen at the location, where the alleged shots were fired.
However, The authenticity of the video can not be confirmed.
A court official suggested that the ruckus could be connected to a parking dispute and the authorities are investigating the same
Delhi Police’s response
The Delhi Police also released a statement acknowledging the aforementioned incident, stating that the shots were fired in the air and no one was harmed by them. The Delhi Police assured that the situation was now normal and under control, with Joint Commissioner of Police (central range) Parmaditya present at the scene. legal action has been initiated in connection with the incident.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi, the aforementioned firing incident had taken place at around 1335 hours today at PZ Subsi Mandi to have taken place between two different groups of lawyers, including office bearers.
The reason behind the firing
According to sources, lawyers were indiscriminately firing towards the west wing of the Tis Hazari Court in Delhi likely provoked by the brawl that broke over the issue of parking and chamber..
The lawyer who had fired shots at the west wing of the Tis Hazari Court, Delhi was identified as Manish Sharma, who is the Senior Vice-President of the Tis Hazari Court.
Mr Manish Sharma allegedly had an argument with his Secretary Atul Sharma over parking and the chamber which escalated and resulted in the shots being fired.
A similar incident at Saket
A similar incident took place at Delhi Saket court where at least two people, including a woman, were injured after shots were fired.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested the person who had opened fire in the Saket court on Wednesday.
According to Delhi Police, the woman who was shot was involved in numerous fraud cases in the past, and revealing a different aspect to the fore, further, they reported the shooter was identified as Rajendra Jha, an advocate practicing at the Saket Court, Delhi who was in his uniform at the time of the incident.
