The last four years of school is very critical for the rest of your life. In most cases, these four years decide what you are going to be in the near future, so guidance is most needed in these four years of any student’s life
In the era of so many career options, it has become ordinary that student’s join’s wrong courses and create a mess afterwards,
so to solve this big problem and make the lives of these confused students easier to make seniors of these students the mentors.
What is this Programme?
Let’s get into more details now, which were later shared by the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, on October 11th, 2021.
The Government of Delhi launched the “Desh Ke Mentor” program, which will be implemented in every government school in Delhi to guide the students of classes XI and XII by their seniors by making them their mentors.
Each mentor will be assigned to 2 to 5 students, and their mentors will guide them through all aspects of education by creating an example of themselves.
People between 18 and 35 can register themselves to become mentors through the app launched by the Government of Delhi and created by a team at Delhi Technological University.
Mentors will be connected to students based on mutual interest. This programme is a minimum of two months and can be extended for another four months, optionally.
During the launch event, the Chief Minister said:
“When a child enters adolescence around the 9th standard, the child has the two biggest kinds of needs.
First, their emotional and second is the psychological needs. We want these children to get a non-judgmental helping hand and guiding light.
Someone with whom the child can talk without any inhibitions and be at peace. I am sure this programme will see mentors enroll from across the country.
The children of Delhi won’t just mentor the children. We have developed an app through which anyone from across the country can join this revolution.
They need to give the child 10-15 minutes every day on a phone call. The second need is that from 9th onwards, students have no idea what they should do in life.
Their exposure isn’t extensive, and the same case was with me. I did not know much about the scope of various fields.
‘Desh Ke Mentors’ will be able to guide and counsel the children properly. Third, the children hope that the mentor will help them gain a value system, make them a better human, a better citizen.”
There are around 9Lakh students in XI and XII Delhi government schools, and according to “Desh Ke Mentor” Twitter, this programme is India’s First & Biggest Mentorship Program,
# DeshKeMentor, launched by Arvind Kejriwal & Manish Sisodia, which will help students choose a better option for their further studies,
It also gives a chance to us citizens who are not directly connected to them to allow them to pursue their dreams and make India proud
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said
It is difficult for students of 9th-12th to decide what they should be pursuing. During this time, if someone holds their hand without judging and imposing their dreams on them,
it will result in better decision-making for the future professionals we will be making. If someone wants admission into the police,
someone should guide them and let them know of the process and research as a mentor. If parents are confused about how to help their child choose their careers,
there should be a mentor to guide and assist students in taking the right decision. It is usually problematic in Indian households where generational patterns choose professions, and it often restricts the child in following their interests.
The mentor’s work is to provide help, guidance, and ideas, and the child’s responsibility is to do hard work, smart work, and put in consistent efforts and talent,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
And it is very accurate we see this problematic situation in the locality or sometimes in our own family Mr Sisodia have pointed out the problem which usually becomes the biggest hurdle for any students to pursue their dreams. Hopefully, their initiative will help students.
However, I want to address an issue that could potentially violate the students.
- The mentor should not circulate the personal information of their mentee and should not try to humiliate them
- The mentor should who was appointed should be the one who is attending the student
- There is a potential threat of child trafficking which should be avoided
