‘Kisan Putra’ Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, former governor of West Bengal takes an oath to become the 14th Vice President of India.
On August 11th, Thursday, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar took the oath to become the 14th Vice President of India. President Smt Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The Vice President is the second highest constructional authority in the country. Electors of the position is from both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Being the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankar has presiding officers from Rajasthan for both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Succeeding Venkaiah Naidu, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected to the post after defeating the opposition’s Margaret Alva. He won with the highest margin in the last six vice presidential elections held since 1997. Receiving 28 votes, Dhankar comfortably defeated joint opposition candidate Alva having 182 votes.

- • BJP-led NDA candidate, Shri Dhankar, was born on May 18, 1951.
- •Coming from a village in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan Dhankhar completed his school education at Sainik School, Chittorgarh.
- •After finishing his graduation in Physics, he did his LLB from the University of Rajasthan. He became one of the leading lawyers and practiced in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
- •His political journey started as he became a member of parliament from Jhunjhunu. He served as a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in 1990. He also worked for Rajasthan Assembly in 1993.
- •Shri Dhankhar was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal in 2019. He resigned from the post of West Bengal Governor on July 17 after his name was announced as the Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
