The 2019 Nations League champion started aggressively in the match. Portugal’s leading goalscorer and captain Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in a collision with Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. He suffered a nasty nose injury but continued to play after getting treatment. Diogo Dalot broke the deadlock with his strike from Rafael Leao’s cut-back in the 33rd minute. The goal is the first by Dalot for Portugal.
Bruno Fernandes scored the 2nd in the first-half injury time from Mario Rui’s cross to put Portugal in complete control going in halftime. Cristiano Ronaldo conceded a penalty to the Czech Republic with a handball in injury time but forward Patrik Schick was unable to convert the spot-kick.
Portugal assert control from Dalot and Fernandes goals
Diogo Dalot continued his assault in the 2nd half as well. His outside-the-box left-footed finish from Bruno Fernandes’s assist took the match away from the Czech Republic by the 52nd minute. The Brace from Dalot was enough to seal the game for Portugal but Cristiano Ronaldo struggled to finish off chances in the entire match.
He missed several good scoring chances with improper finishes making him frustrated with himself throughout the match. He made up for his misses and penalty when he set up Diogo Jota from a corner in the 82nd minute. Jota headed in Portugal’s 4th goal of the night as they comfortably cruised to victory in a must-win match.
Portugal sits on the top of the table and must avoid a defeat against Spain on Tuesday to reach next summer’s finals. Spain on the other hand lost their 1st home match in 4 years against Switzerland 2-1.

Goals and assists from Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, and Cristiano Ronaldo is good news for Portugal’s national football team. But it is equally important for the fans of Manchester United as they watch closely their stars play during the international break. Only one thing remains to be corrected – seeing Cristiano Ronaldo back on the scoresheets. Portugal will face Spain on Tuesday at home and look forward to continuing the assault and securing the top position in the group.
