French luxury house Dior has launched a new capsule collection, Dior Or, just in time for the Holy Month of Ramadan. Gold has played an important role in the label’s history since the brand’s inception, and this latest collection pays tribute to founder Christian Dior by reinterpreting iconic models with dazzling golden touches. Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri has put her own contemporary spin on the Dior Or capsule collection, just as she has done season after season.
Dior Or Collection ( Ramadan )
The collection includes a range of smart long dresses and midi skirts made of poetic tulle, lace, or cotton-Lurex jacquard, all featuring luminous metallic gold tones. Cosy knits are also part of the collection, making it perfect for modern jet-setters.
The capsule collection also features never-before-seen pieces, such as a boxy jacket made from a striking textural fabric and adorned with buttons featuring the “CD” signature. These pieces are a testament to Chiuri’s version of refined and contemporary allure, and her role in creating looks for modern, empowered women.
Along with the clothing, the Dior Or collection also includes enhancements to the Lady Dior, Dior Book Tote and Dior Caro bags, such as iridescent leather in three luminous variations – gold, gold-pink, and silver. The Lady D-Joy is also available in a version embellished with the graphic lines of the metallic Diamond Cannage.
Footwear options include the 30 Montaigne, D-Way mules, J’Adior Slingback Pumps, Walk’n’Dior sneakers, and more, all magnified with enchanting golden hues. Iconic bags have been given the golden treatment for this capsule collection, and the accessories selection culminates in a bracelet with the brand’s signature logo written out in dazzling charms.
Past Dior Or collections were influenced by the house’s golden oldies, like Marc Bohan’s tenure as artistic director with the Pépite dress in lamé jacquard, and the sleek, luminous gown worn by actress Lauren Hutton in the 1982 film All Fired Up, or John Galliano’s Spring/Summer ‘04 Haute Couture collection, displayed as a symbol of opulence and exuberance through the pharaohs of Egypt – boldly worn head-to-toe.
Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri
Maria Grazia Chiuri has been the creative director of Dior since 2016, making her the first woman to hold this position in the brand’s history. Her vision for Dior has been characterised by a focus on empowering women through fashion. Chiuri draws inspiration from the feminist movement and incorporates slogans such as “We Should All Be Feminists” into her designs, creating clothing that celebrates and empowers women.
The creative director has also emphasised the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry. She has made it a point to feature models of different ages, ethnicities, and body types in Dior’s runway shows, promoting inclusivity and breaking down traditional beauty standards.
Under Chiuri’s leadership, the French luxury house has become known for its elegant yet wearable designs, with a particular emphasis on couture craftsmanship. She has brought a fresh perspective to the brand, while also staying true to its heritage and iconic designs.
The Dior Or capsule collection is a perfect fit for the Holy Month of Ramadan, which is a time of reflection, prayer, and family gatherings. The collection pays tribute to the brand’s founder, Christian Dior, by reinterpreting the golden hues on iconic, French silhouettes. The colour gold is especially fitting for the Ramadan season, as gold is often associated with wealth, luxury, and celebration. The collection is a testament to Chiuri’s creative, unique style. With her contemporary spin on the brand’s history, Chiuri has once again proven that she is a visionary in the fashion industry.
