Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Elangovan allegedly commented anti-Hindi remarks and said that Hindi is a language of the underdeveloped states and it will make the Tamil people as Shudras, using a derogatory term for the Hindi language which is used for the people that are considered to be belonging to the lower caste, according to the illogical and impractical caste system.
There is a video which is being viral of an event in Chennai, where the Senior leader and the Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan is commenting on the language of the maximum population of India and is heard saying that, “What will Hindi do?”. The video is undated and the leader is claiming that Hindi was not the first language of the developed states of West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. He stated that the underdeveloped states only spoke Hindi that were the Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan.
Upon the derogatory and the controversial comments of being anti-Hindi, of the leader in Chennai, it has stirred the row of attacks by the Bhartiya Janata Party. The BJP party is launching attack on DMK party and stating that DMK was always and will be a casteist party. The 21-second video clip on Twitter where Elangovan was calling Hindi as the language of the underdeveloped states and it will make the people as Shudras is shared by Tamil NÄdu BJP President K Annamalai.
The Vice president of the state Narayana Tirupati from BJP demanded, “Elangovan has to apologize for these remarks as its insulting Hindu speaking people. The DMK is trying to decide politics by emotional in distracting people with language and caste issues to cover up for their feelings of the past one year. Every day the BJP is levelling charges against the DMK government. There is no economic growth, law and order is deteriorating and corruption is at its peak”.
The Bhartiya Janata Party is slamming the DMK party on its anti-Hindu language comments and is demanding that MK Stalin should take action against the DMK leader, who is insulting the national language and is being the slave of the English people.
Upon getting the reaction of Elangovan, stated that that he would not apologize for his remarks because ki stated the concern about the enforcement of the Hindi language and the culture on the Tamil people and other regional States which are in turn developed. He stated that the northern language is being forced on the state and the culture has also been forced. Also stating the point, of being calling the northern people as Shudras, he said that Manu Dharma is practiced, so they are being made as Shudras.
DMK leaders are making controversial statements against Hindi speakers. Beforehand Tamil Nadu Education Minister K Ponmudi describe Hindi speakers as Pani Puri sellers in May. Remarks were at the 37th convocation at the state Bharathiar University, where the Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi was also present. Ponmudi said, “While English is an international language, Tamil is a local language. We were told that learning Hindi would land us in jobs. Is that so? You go and see in our state and in Coimbatore. Who are those people who sell pani puris?
Also, the Chief Minister and the Founder of DMK stated a two- language policy that is Tamil and English. It also opposed the Three-language policy of The National Educational Policy of 2020 and stated that the state will continue to follow the two-language policy.
Also, the CM of the Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin urged the Centre to make Tamil as the official language on par as Hindi. Modi in turn elaborating MK Stalin on the cultural and global aspect of the Tamil Language.
There is a conception of the southern states that supporting English as a language and Tamil as their local cultural language and demean the Hindi Language which is one of the oldest languages and the mother tongue of the maximum diversified India. They should understand that, India is a Diverse country and everyone’s beliefs must be respected. No one has the right to demean or state derogatory statements against anyone’s cultural and linguistic beliefs. Everyone has been granted their fundamental rights by the constitution and everyone has the freedom to practice them and be a citizen of the country with freedom. These people who are using derogatory comments regarding one of the official languages, should keep in mind that they are the citizens residing in a diversified country that is India and doing all these remarks, does not suit them as being citizens of India.
