US Attorney General Merric Garland further revealed that he “personally approved the search warrant.” In addition, “the department does not take this decision lightly. The best practice is to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search.”
In response to the Republican’s attack on functioning of the FBI and Department of Justice, Merric Garland stated that the people in the FBI and DoJ work day and night to “protect the citizens from terrorism, crimes and other threats to their safety while protecting their civil rights.”
“Men and women of FBI and Justice department are dedicated, patriotic, public servants.” – US Attorney General.
Trump’s Mar-a-Lago search was allegedly for nuclear documents.
American newspaper the Washington Post recently reported that the FBI search at Mar-a-Lago was to retrieve nuclear documents. According to the Washington Post report, the persons involved in the investigation are saying nuclear documents were the focus of the hunt in Mar-a-Lago. The authenticity of the claim hasn’t been verified by the FBI or the Department of Justice.
In addition, Garland stated, more details about the investigation will be provided “in the appropriate way and at the appropriate time.” Previously on July 20th, US Attorney General clearly stated that no person is above the law. Since the FBI search, this is the first time Attorney General Merric Garland addressed the issue in a press conference.
The statement comes in wake of the unprecedented FBI search at former US President Donald Trump’s house in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump’s allies and people of the Republican party attacked the integrity of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.
After Attorney General’s conference, Trump’s lawyer Christina Bobb called Merric Garland’s press conference a “pathetic presser”, on Fox News.
