Former US President Donald trump launched a collection of NFTs featuring his own pictures wearing a cape, superhero costume and ‘Trump Champion’ belt. He can be seen in various other costumes like astronaut and Nascar driver. The collection is called Trump Digital Trading Cards.
Donald Trump has been satirized by numerous worldwide media sources in the past for his beliefs and opinions in the form of cartoons and comic books. This time, though, the former president entered their league to start his electronic trading card company rather than to make fun of them.
Trump said that the limited edition NFTs showcased incredible artwork from his life and career.
Trump began his third campaign for president last month. This week, he indicated that he would reveal a “big announcement,” which led to rumors. A probable running mate for his presidential election campaign was anticipated by certain observers.
Instead, Trump teased a promo video on his Truth Social page. The video showed an animated representation of the ex – president in front of Trump Tower in New York, ripping off his shirt to uncover a superhero suit with the letter T imprinted on it while lasers shoot out of his eyes.
He then confirmed that he would be selling digital trading cards of himself costing $99 that featured him as a superhero, astronaut, Old West sheriff, and a variety of other characters. The tokens, which consist of 45,000 imaginary NFTs, are issued by Polygon and can be bought using ether (ETH) or with fiat money.
Trump claimed that the NFTs would make an amazing Christmas gift and that they were just like baseball cards, but a lot more interesting. All the 45,000 pieces were sold in around 12 hours raising $4.45 million.
Promising rewards for purchasing NFTs
According to Collect Trump Cards, the official website for the trading cards, rewards include the ability to interact with the president of the United States, an hour-long round of golf with the president, a special dinner in Miami, a meet-and-greet with Mr. Trump at his lavish private club in Palm Beach, a one-on-one Zoom conversation with Trump, hand-signed souvenirs, and a lot more. A dinner in South Florida is also promised with the purchase of 45 Digital Trading Cards.
Donald Trump mocked yet again
Social media users have criticized the move, and prominent Republicans have added their voices to the chorus.
Current US President Joe Biden went on Twitter to say that he had a few MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS about the last few of weeks too, in an evident dig at Mr. Trump. He said that this included lowering inflation and passing a legislation protecting marriage.
Steve Bannon, former Chief Strategist of Trump showed his disapproval regarding the whole thing on his podcast and stated that anyone who was involved in this should be sacked.
Some suggested that the selling of NFTs was done to raise money for Mr. Trump’s ongoing legal fights. The NFTs website states that the money would not be used for his presidential campaign.
