The Home Minister also urged the governments and agencies of the States to cooperate in order to realise the goal of a drug-free India.
Additionally, he said that narcotics departments across the nation have destroyed approximately 1,44,000 kilogrammes of drugs worth 2,416 crore rupees on the direction of the Union Home Minister.
According to Ministry statistics, from June 1, 2022, to July 15, 2024, all regional NCB and ANTF units of states destroyed about 8,76,554 kilogrammes of narcotics worth approximately 9,580 crore rupees, which is more than 11 times the objective.
1.40 Lakh kg Drugs Destroyed, HM Observes Virtually
The Regional Conference on “Drugs Smuggling and National Security” was presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in collaboration with the Anti Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) of all States, would destroy around 1,44,000 kilogrammes of narcotics worth Rs. 2,416 crore in various regions of the nation during the conference.
Shah, who was in New Delhi for a seminar on “Drugs Smuggling and National Security,” observed as the drugs, most of which were from Madhya Pradesh, were destroyed in several locations.
The Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Hyderabad unit confiscated 6,590 kg of the substances, followed by the Indore unit with 822 kg and the Jammu unit with 356 kg, according to the officials.
Law enforcement agencies from multiple states joined forces to eradicate the drug menace, resulting in the destruction of substantial quantities.
In various Indian states and union territories, the quantities of goods include 1.03 lakh kg in Madhya Pradesh, 1,486 kg in Assam, 229 kg in Chandigarh, 25 kg in Goa, 4,277 kg in Gujarat, 2,458 kg in Haryana, 4,069 kg in Jammu and Kashmir, 159 kg in Maharashtra, 1,803 kg in Tripura, and 4,049 kg in Uttar Pradesh.
This concerted effort signifies a strong commitment to combating drug trafficking and promoting a safer environment within the country.
Government Adopts ‘Zero Tolerance Policy Against Narcotics
The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially adopted a “Zero Tolerance” policy against narcotics as part of its commitment to achieving a narcotic-free India, an official statement revealed.
This policy underscores the government’s unwavering determination to combat narcotic abuse and trafficking in the country.
From June 1, 2022, to July 15, 2024, the National Control Bureau (NCB) and State Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) have collectively destroyed an impressive 8,76,554 kilograms of seized drugs, valued at approximately Rs.9,580 crore.
This figure surpasses the set target by more than 11 times. The statement further reveals that the recent destruction of drugs will push the total quantity destroyed within a year to reach around 10 lakh kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs.12,000 crore.
