In a shocking episode that happened on Sunday outside Aryabhatta School in South Campus, a 19-year-old undergraduate from Delhi College lost his life as a result of voicing against the harassment of his female friend. The person in question, recognized as Nikhil Chauhan, was a first-year BA Political Science student at the School of Open Learning.
As per the police, a group of four to five unidentified men showed up on bikes and supposedly stabbed Nikhil in the chest. Upsetting CCTV film, which has surfaced on the web, catches the charged running away from the area. As of now, no arrests have been made, but the police are conducting raids to apprehend the culprits.
DCP (Southwest) Manoj C expressed that the police got a PCR call from Charak Palika Hospital at South Campus police headquarters regarding the stabbing. Nikhil was brought to the hospital by other students and local people. The police examination uncovered that about seven days prior, one more SOL understudy had acted mischievously with Nikhil’s companion. When Nikhil objected, the accused became angry and decided to seek revenge. On Sunday around 12:30 pm, the student, joined by three partners, met Nikhil outside the school door and severely cut him in the chest.
Nikhil, living with his parents and two brothers in West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, worked as a part-time model and had a deep passion for modeling and acting. He actively participated in various competitions within the city, showcasing his talent.
Shattered by the misfortune, Nikhil’s dad, Sanjay, who works at a private firm, described getting a call around 12-12:30 pm, informing him that his son had been injured. Upon reaching the college, he discovered the devastating truth that Nikhil had been brutally stabbed and was already deceased. Sanjay communicated shock and skepticism, underlining that his child had left home to meet friends and was supposed to return in a few hours. After visiting Safdarjung Hospital, Sanjay saw the merciless injuries caused upon his child, with blood splattered across his bike. He accentuated Nikhil’s guiltlessness and demanded justice for his child. Sanjay also criticized the college authorities and teachers for their apparent failure to intervene and prevent the tragic incident right outside the college premises.
The DU Public Relations Officer (PRO), Anoop Lather, responded to the incident, communicating profound distress. He extended his condolences to Nikhil Chauhan’s family.
In a new turn of events, the police reported that two men have been apprehended in connection with the killing of Nikhil Chauhan. Identified as Rahul (19), a resident of Bindapur, and Haroon (19), a resident of Janakpuri, both were arrested. Rahul is a first-year undergrad, while his dad works at a bread shop in Bindapur. Haroon, a companion of Rahul, works at a t-shirt factory in the Nilothi region. Preliminary investigations uncovered that the accused allegedly misbehaved with Chauhan’s girlfriend a week prior, prompting the confrontation and subsequent stabbing. On Sunday at roughly 12:30 pm, the accused, joined by three partners, met Chauhan outside Aryabhatta School and did the severe assault.
The tragic demise of Nikhil Chauhan is a poignant reminder of the crucial need to uphold a secure and protected atmosphere within educational establishments. As the investigation advances and the legal proceedings unfold, there is an expectation that the pursuit of justice will provide solace to Nikhil’s mourning family and establish a framework for ensuring the safety of students in the times ahead.
