The giant tech Google has taken another step in their pursuit of innovation with their upcoming flagship model, Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro with the rumors that they will be making this, the first ever eSIM only, android smartphone.
Other android smartphones have also included the eSIM feature, but it has always been one physical SIM card and one eSIM. The only other smartphone to have an eSIM only feature in their phone is the Apple iPhone 14 series.
The Evidence of the Rumors
These rumours are based on two key pieces of evidence – the first being that in the month of March 2024, the renders lot revealed the absence of a physical SIM card slot, secondly, Google has been working towards improving the eSim experience in Android 14 by transferring an eSIM to another phone with a QR code.
The QR code feature has not been yet made available. Moreover, Google has been silent on the rumours regarding the SIM card slot of the Google pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
It is safe to say that more information will be revealed about all of these rumours, since the release date of the Pixel 8 is in the fall of 2024.
Ok Google – What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is basically an electronic SIM card embedded into the components of a phone which removes the need for having a physical SIM card. The advantages are that the phone becomes more dust resistant and water resistant.
It also eliminates the chances of damaging or losing the physical SIM card activates without having to physically insert it in your smartphone.
The other advantages of having an eSIM is that a considerable amount of space and machinery involving the SIM card itself gets completely eliminated. This opens up room for more components or the improvement of components with additional features which in turn power ups the smartphone’s experience.
Siri vs Google Assistant
This is not the first time that Google has done something to rival Apple ever since its inception of the Google pixel. It has been giving a neck to neck competition in terms of camera quality which was dominated by Apple’s iPhone.
When Apple adopted the multi camera system, Google replied by saying that their cameras don’t need a multi-camera system as one is enough to compete with the numbers. This notorious rivalry between Google and Apple is also evident in Google’s latest advertisement in which it remarks how Google continues to adopt new features unlike Apple as it never changes.
Renowned YouTuber, ‘Marques Brownlee’ has stated as well that in his opinion, the Pixel 7’s still photography is better than the iPhone’s still photography. ‘Marques Brownlee’ is notorious for his blunt and truthful opinions on “YouTube” and unbiased reviews.
