Through his political journey, Mukherjee emerged as one of the most important leaders of the Congress, working with a range of leaders, from Indira Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi and remained an integral part of the party.
Political leaders across party lines remembered him and paid tributes to former president of India, Pranab Mukherjee, on his second death anniversary. Pranab Mukherjee had served as the country’s president between 2012 and 2017.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal remembered the leader, tweeting his respects while Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri shared his pictures with Mukherjee “He will always be remembered for his great contribution to the public, exemplary service to the nation, bipartisan politics and statesmanship.” he said
The Congress family recalls his “monumental contributions to the nation” tweeting a remembrance post for him. Various other handles of the party also commemorated the senior leader’s second death anniversary.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, referred to him as the brother of a great educator and a leader whose influence on public life was profound during his long political career. Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot stated that “Pranab Mukherjee’s commitment towards constitutional values and to the progress of the nation will always remain an inspiration.”
Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also paid his homage to the politician, tweeting that “as the President of India, he had always upheld the highest traditions.”
Dearly called as “Pranab da”, at times also by Prime Minister Modi, Pranab Mukherjee served as India’s 13th president. He had also served as the finance, defence, external affairs, industry and commerce minister; leader of the house of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as well as deputy chairperson of the Planning Commission.
The Bharat Ratna awardee was also remembered by Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath, Ashok Gehlot, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arvind Kejriwal and many others who also paid their respects on his second death anniversary on August 31.
According to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, in his tweet he wrote, “Humble tribute to the former President, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Pranab Mukherjee, who was the epitome of purity and virtue, as well as your contribution to national reconstruction that is an invaluable inspiration.”.
Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted saying “I humble tribute to the former President of India, Bharat Ratna holdee, Honorable Dr. Pranab Mukherjee ji on his second death anniversary.”
Along with the CMs and the Congress party, a number of other senior political leaders, such as Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and many other leaders took to their Twitter to remember and pay tribute to the political leader who became well respected on all sides of the political spectrum.
BJP leader and former union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi remembered Mukherjee saying, “My tributes to the towering statesman, former President of India, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Pranab Mukherjee Ji, on his Punyatithi.”
