Faf du Plessis, a former South African captain, has been selected as the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the forthcoming Indian Premier League 2022.
While the franchise was confirmed during the RCB unboxing event, Fab du Plessis has been selected as the new captain of RCB in the next IPL 2022, which will begin on March 26. Duplessis, who was a member of the Chennai Super Kings until last year, has been selected by RCB for the 2022 Mega IPL auction for a fee of Rs. 7 crores.
This appointment puts an end to all discussion about Virat Kohli taking over as RCB captain, while Du Plessis departs. Glen Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik were both strong players with enough leadership experience.
“I played a lot of IPL and I understand the event,” Fab du Plessis said. “I would rely significantly on domestic experience as well as international players.”
He went on to say that we have one of the best game captains in Virat.
Furthermore, he stated, “It’s an honour and privilege to come to this big franchise; it was really dynamic and really encouraged me and made me eager for the upcoming season.”
“I can’t be happier,” Virat Kohli said. “He is a really dear buddy of mine, and I am looking forward to it.”
After Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Kohli, and Shane Watson, Du pleases was named the seventh captain to lead RCB.
Kohli has captained the team in the majority of the games, with a winning percentage of 48.16 in 140 games (64 wins and 69 defeats).
“Having been a leader for a while, I’ve been on the road of developing a culture, and it’s also very near to my heart, my style of forming relationships to connect with the players and also to start getting everyone,” Duplessis added.
He went on to say, “The first portion of my journey will be creating relationships with each and every person so that all the minor things get ticked so that I can get the most out of them.”
Du Plessis stats in IPL:
He has scored 2935 runs at an average of 34.94 and a strike rate of 131.08 in 100 matches and 93 innings, and he has 22 half-centuries. As a result, he has 1640 runs in 47 innings in the last four IPL seasons.
“Faf is a world-class player who also has an outstanding capacity to lead in all three formats,” stated Mike Hesson, RCB’s Director of Cricket Operations. Furthermore, he stated that “his experience is mind-blowing, as is his way of captaining the team, and it will be extremely important.”
In total, Faf has won 25 T20 matches for South Africa, led the Test side of South Africa to 36 test victories, and played in 28 ODI matches.
As a result, Du Plessis will be vital for RCB in terms of getting to know their players and creating relationships with them, as well as playing an amazing role and putting pressure on the opposition.
After the series against Pakistan in February 2021, Duplessis announced his retirement from Test cricket. As a result, he will play a critical part in the IPL 2022.
