The farmer revealed that he had anticipated earning roughly 30 rupees per kg from the sale of tomatoes, but things have changed this year.
A farmer in Maharashtra’s Pune district claimed to have made more than 2.8 crore from selling tomatoes, despite tomato prices throughout the nation soaring.
Ishwar Gayakar, 36, and his spouse, who are from the Junnar taluka of Pune, have no plans to stop here. With a supply of about 4000 tomato crates on hand, the farmer couple has set a goal to make 3.5 crore.
Ishwar Gaikar stated of his years of dedication, “This is not something I have acquired in a single day. On my 12-acre farm, I’ve been growing tomatoes for the past six or seven years. I have also suffered defeats on numerous occasions, but I never gave up hope. I suffered a loss of 18–20 lakh rupees in 2021, yet I persisted.
Gaikar stated his income this year: “This year, I produced tomatoes on 12 acres, and as of today, I have sold roughly 17000 crates at a price ranging from 770 to 2311 each crate. I have therefore made 2.8 crore in total up to this point.
“Inside my field and house, I still have amounts of 3,000 and 4,000 crates of tomatoes. So if one does the calculation, my total income for this year would be about 3.5 crore,” he continued.
Gaikar claimed that his accomplishment has made his family happy. He stated, “I feel that this success has come to me because of the blessings of my parents, grandparents, and the hard work of my wife.” My entire family is pleased with the price we received for our tomatoes.
Gaikar revealed that he had estimated that selling tomatoes would bring in about 30 rupees per kilogram, but things have changed this year.
I anticipated getting approximately 30 rupees per kg for the price of tomatoes going into this season, but it ended up being a bumper lottery for me this time,” he added.
Since 2005, Gaykar has become a farmer. He succeeded his father in farming, and he currently works on the farm alongside his wife. They used to grow tomatoes on just 1 acre of land in the past. Later, he is growing tomatoes on 12 acres with labor that is still readily available from 2017. Gaykar also grows flowers and onions during the appropriate seasons in addition to tomatoes.
The Centre on Sunday lowered the wholesale price of tomatoes from 90 to 80 per kg, which is a comfort for consumers who had to stop buying them after their costs skyrocketed throughout the nation.
Delhi decided to tweak and make changes to the price of tomatoes after again assessing the condition of the selling market. Starting on Sunday, July 16, the National Agriculture Cooperation Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Consumer Cooperation Federation (NCCF) will implement the price increases in various cities.
Depending on the current market pricing in the existing areas, it will be expanded to more cities. Tomato prices had earlier been changed on July 14 to 90 per kg.
