The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, one of the most keenly anticipated World Cups in memory for both off-the-field and on-field reasons, kicks off on Sunday in Qatar.
The 22nd FIFA World Cup will take place from Sunday, November 20, to Sunday, December 18, 2022, in Qatar. For those who are unaware, the Arab world will be hosting the FIFA World Cup for the first time ever. The most recent FIFA World Cup was held in Russia four years ago, in 2018.
The event has 32 teams split into 8 groups of 4 teams, with 64 matches being played to determine the FIFA World Cup 2022 champion. To fit the World Cup into only 29 days, back-to-back games will be played in Qatar for seven straight days.
The tournament’s opening match pits Qatar against Ecuador. The final match will be played on December 18 at 8.30 p.m.
The first World Cup ever was held in November and December in order to avoid the desert heat in Qatar, but it is just the beginning of its unusual features. The games take place earlier and more frequently than during any previous group stage, bringing players, supporters, and viewers from all around the world to Qatar. Despite having been used on the opening Saturday of past tournaments, four unique kickoff times are required for this one in order for it to function.
