A fire broke out at a Sofa factory in Mayapuri Phase II, west Delhi. The fire erupted at 2AM last night and officials reached the location immediately. Two policemen and seven civilians have been injured as per the officials.
A three storey sofa factory store caught fire at Mayapuri in West Delhi. A call was received at around 2:05 AM at this market. 9 people aged between 23-60, have been hurt out of which two are policemen and the rest are workers of the factory. Currently, they’re being treated at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
This market in Phase II specially deals with selling scrap items.The factory is responsible for packing iron sofa springs, reported Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services. Five tenders reported to the spot immediately and doused the fire, which took two hours to control completely.
The ground floor of the three storey building caught fire, built in a 92 square metre plot. Garg also informed that a drum of Glue also burst because of the fire. The case is being investigated and lodged at the Mayapuri Police Station.
The injured were identified as Rakesh, 35, Ram Niwas, 60, Santosh, 27, Harichand, 35, Vikrant, 25, Kishan, 23, and Inderjeet, 33. Head constables Randhir Singh and Vikrant too received burn injuries in the incident, fire officials said. No loss of life has been reported.
Fires in Mayapuri Phase II are very common because of the high combustion products manufactured and packed in the market. Two separate incidents of fires, on June 23 and July 28, also took place this year. A surgical equipment factory caught serious fire on June 23rd, and 13 tenders were sent to douse the fire.
A similar case of fire at a factory was reported at Udyog Vihar(outer Delhi) on July 30.
