The new sell-back program of Flipkart was launched in India. The program will allow the users to sell their old and used smartphones, regardless of any brand, whether purchased on Flipkart or not. Further, the company will also expand more different categories for the ease of its users. Flipkart’s Sell Back program is accessible in 1700 PIN codes in major cities, including Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, and more. This sell-back program will also reduce e-waste generated by old smartphones and other electronic devices. Because in India, 3.2 million tonnes of e-waste are generated a year, India is the world’s third-largest e-waste contributor after China and the US.
After acquiring electronic e-commerce company Yaantra, Flipkart launched its sell-back program of used smartphones. This Flipkart’s efforts also contribute towards a circular economy. And it is expected that the association of Yaantra and all the forces of Flipkart Group will prove to be good in making the Indian refurbished market successful and creating a better experience for our consumers.
How Flipkart Sell Back Program Works?
According to Flipkart, the new Sell Back scheme is also available on the Flipkart app. Those who want to sell their used smartphones will receive a reasonable buyback price in the form of Flipkart eGift Vouchers. After final confirmation of the seller for their smartphone price and filling all required information, a Flipkart executive will collect that used smartphone from the
seller within 48 hours. And then, after verification of the product, an electronic coupon will send to the customer for the smartphones. A customer can purchase a new smartphone or any other good from the website with those coupons. To sell their old and used smartphones, customers can visit the Flipkart app and select “Sell back” from the options in the bottom bar.
Indian refurbished market needs to be organized.
The migration of 5G to 5G people demand high-speed smartphones, and people continuously upgrade their smartphones. According to firm International Data Corporation (IDC) report, there are approximately 125 million used smartphones in India. Only 20 million used smartphones reach the refurbished market, which means 85% of old and utilized smartphones end up in the garbage, which shows that the reselling devices are highly unorganized in India. This sell-back program aims to help organize this market and reduce the generation of e-waste, said Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President and Head of Flipkart’s Growth Charter. This effort of Flipkart will also help to solve the e-waste problem at a certain level.
One of the biggest homegrown e-commerce platforms, Flipkart, the company’s net worth is around $40 billion. The company consistently introduces smart-tech-enabled solutions to let the customers purchase the latest, wanted products at best and at affordable pricing.
The company at the start focused on online book sales, but now it is expanding into other product categories such as groceries, fashion, home essentials, consumer electronics, and lifestyle products.
