G20 meeting
As the G20 meeting is taking place, the event is held in Varanasi, where the delegates from the G20 countries are. The G20 meeting started on June 11 and will conclude on June 13, 2024. The event has to discuss various dimensions and topics that influence development. Two important dimensions and topics have been mentioned by the Ministry of External Affairs to be discussed: firstly, multilateralism: collective actions for accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goals; and secondly, green development: a LIFE (lifestyle for the environment) approach.
The current G20 meeting discussed multilateralism and the approach that is needed to create a more sustainable world and a more equitable space for all. Following the same speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the delegates by mentioning the importance of digitization and the democratisation of technology.
He further addressed several dimensions of the present world trends, such as the fact that the efforts we are adopting to achieve them need to be comprehensive, inclusive for all, fair, and sustainable in nature so that not a single person is left behind. He further addressed the core issues in global development and the need for “women-led development.”
Democratization of technology
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expands on how digitization has brought revolutionary changes to India. The need for the democratisation of data to bridge the data divide in the country He has given an instance of how digitization has improved the lives of people in more than 100 districts that suffer from backward development.
He pays important heed to the need for the democratisation of data in order to bridge the gaps that exist in the world and hamper sustainable development, as well as delays in achieving a development that is comprehensive, inclusive for all, fair for all, and a more suitable solution.
Also, this digitization needs to deal with bridging the gaps between those who have and those who don’t have the ability to avail themselves of the resources. He also places emphasis on the need for gender equality and equity when it comes to accessing resources and opportunities.
Women led development
The Prime Minister does mention the need for “women-led development,” not just the idea of women’s empowerment. He affirms his views on how focusing development around women solves half the problem when it comes to development. As the female counterpart makes up half of the population. Making them feel left out is not a good idea for development. We need to have an open-minded approach to development and achieving sustainability.
He pays heed to the need for a development approach that is woman-led. Focusing on involving women in the development process and giving them leadership opportunities is the key to having “women-led development”. This women-led development approach can help global institutions foster development around the globe, provide opportunities for everyone to develop and evolve into better people, and make this world a better place to live.
