Gautam Gambhir was appointed as a mentor for IPL’s Lucknow team. He will be in charge of the team’s strategy and training.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed Gautam Gambhir as a team mentor for the new franchise in Lucknow. He will be in charge of creating strategy and training players on building a solid team.
The franchise is yet to be named, but by choosing Gambhir to mentor, it has brought a great sense of importance to what it will hold for the face-off matches.
Gambhir, who has served as a mentor of Delhi Daredevils since 2013, was appreciated by the new team owners of the Rajasthan Royals for his efforts.
It is worth mentioning that he has helped Delhi Daredevils reach their highest point in the league – third place on three occasions. He has played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is for India. He has also captained KKR to two IPL titles during his playing days.
IPL teams are now appointing mentors who can provide players with guidance about playing their game. The purpose of the mentors is to act as skilled members of cricket teams and help produce better performances for players on and off the field. Gambhir in a statement said-
“Thanks a lot, to Dr Goenka and the RPSG Group for presenting me with this wonderful opportunity in their setup. The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me, the desire to leave a winner’s legacy still kicks me 24×7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh,”
Sanjiv Goenka welcomed Gambhir into the RPSG family. He also praised the player.
