The Supreme Court suggested on Wednesday that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali change the name of his film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,‘. It will release on Friday, 25th February, 2022.
According to reports, the Supreme Court made the suggestion in light of multiple pending applications in the courts. It has requested a stay to the film’s release due to a variety of issues.
According to reports, Bhansali’s lawyer has stated that he will seek directions from the filmmaker before the court resumes hearings tomorrow, February 24.
If the director accepts the court’s suggestion, it will be Bhansali’s third picture to undergo a renaming. ‘Goliyon Ka Raasleela Ram-Leela’ and ‘Padmaavat‘ were among the titles he changed in the past.
They have filed several lawsuits in various courts to prevent the publication of the film based on the life of Gangubai , a political figure in Mumbai’s Kamathipura neighborhood. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court dismissed three petitions filed seeking deletion of the words ‘Kamathipura’, ‘Kathiawadi’ and ‘China’ from the Hindi movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice M S Karnik was hearing two public interest litigations (PILs) – filed by city MLA Amin Patel and one Hiten Mehta – and another petition submitted by Shraddha Surve, a resident of the Kamathipura area in south Mumbai.
