- Shreyas Iyer scored 74 runs, leading to India winning the 2nd T20 against Sri Lanka.Â
- Gavaskar compared Iyer’s batting with Rojer Federer’s forehand.Â
Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, has praised an Indian cricketer, comparing him to Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, won the second T20I against Sri Lanka by seven wickets at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, putting the three-match series 2-0.
The Indian team won the match by chasing down a problematic 184-run goal in 17.1 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten after playing some of their most remarkable innings.Â
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports, the official channel of Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2022, that Shreyas looked “smart and confident” throughout his knock and that a number of the teenagers’ shots were identical to Djokovic or Federer’s forehand.
“Except for rare circumstances, Iyer was using the full face of the bat as much as possible. He was incredible.
Gavaskar explained,
“It was more like a Djokovic or Federer forehand.”
The former India captain went on to say that the 27-year-old showed intelligence by just playing lofted shots in the ‘V’ region.Â
Djokovic and Federer, both 20-time Grand Slam champions, are considered the top forehand players globally, along with Rafael Nadal, who has won 21 Grand Slam titles.
Iyer avoided being caught by hitting lofted strokes in front of the wickets because fielders were stationed on either side of the sightscreen.
“Play as straight as possible,”
Gavaskar explained,
“and even if the ball does anything, it will have an inside or outside edge.”
At the non-end, striker Shreyas was standing on 74 runs off 44 balls, while Jadeja scored the winning runs for the match.Â
With the help of seven fours and one six, veteran allrounder Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 45 runs off 18 balls while batting with Shreyas.
Iyer smashed four sixes and six fours in his knock, hitting at 168.18, whereas Jadeja smashed runs at a strike rate of 250.00.
In 4.1 balls, both hitters combined 58 runs for the fourth wicket. At the same time, Sanju Samson, who came in at number four, smashed 39 runs off 25 balls to help the Men in Blue win the series.Â
Ishan Kishan Injury:Â
On Saturday, Ishan Kishan, an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, was released from the hospital after suffering a head injury while playing the second T20I against Sri Lanka.
According to BCCI sources, he will be closely monitored and is listed as questionable for the 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka on Sunday.Â
According to news agency ANI, Kishan was brought to a hospital in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, which is the closest center to Dharamshala, where the second T20I was being played yesterday night.
After a 146 kmph bouncer from Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara hit Kishan’s head in the fourth over of the Indian innings, he was injured.Â
As per the report, after suffering a thumb injury, Sri Lankan star Dinesh Chandimal was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. In the second T20I, Chandimal was injured while fielding.Â
“I was assigned to the Indian squad, and I received word that an Indian player had suffered a head injury and had been hospitalized. He had a CT scan and has been kept under observation. After suffering a thumb injury in the second T20I, a Sri Lankan player was taken to the hospital. Right now, we’re keeping an eye on everything,”
according to ANI, a doctor said.Â
