The Bharatiya Janata Party observed a strategic contestation of competitive Chief Ministerial candidates from BJP, Indian National Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Admi Party. The incumbent Chief Minister Pramod Sawant won office in the state assembly elections for the third time in a row since the 11th assembly elections in 2012.
“Though the party has 25 seats along with allies, the number may rise when a floor test is held in the Assembly,” said Ravi, BJP’s Goa Desk in charge.Dr Pramod Sawant tweeted that he addressed the newly-elected MLAs of Goa on Thursday after the results were declared.
Furthermore, this victory is also set to observe the implementation of the manifesto that was formulated in January 2022. The ‘Sankalp Peti’ saw the exposure to a convention held to collaborate with the possible suggestions by the members. The party claimed that seventy-five per cent of the manifesto from the last assembly election was implemented. It has aimed to have a better plan of action and implementation this time.
BJP bagged Goa along with three other states out of the 5 states it contested in. The formation of the government in Goa was put on hold due to the same formational procedures taking place in the other three states.
The senior leaders of BJP met on Sunday, 20th March 2022 to discuss the plan of action. The meeting involved Pramod Sawant, Goa’s state unit president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and BJP state leaders. They announced 23rd – 25th March as tentative dates.
It was also declared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the ceremony. “The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held tentatively between March 23 and 25,” said Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
The central observers appointed for Goa will be arriving on Monday, said Pramod Sawant, incumbent Chief Minister. The exact dates for the swearing-in ceremony are yet to be decided post their arrival.
The oath of secrecy for Chief Minster will be administered by PS Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of the state. Pramod Sawant and Vishwajit Rane held a meeting with Amit Shah, Home Minister of India. The meeting was held on Saturday, 19th March 2022. They both demonstrated their zeal for acquiring the highest post in the State.
The political history of Goa elections saw the majority with Indian National Congress. However, BJP in the 11th assembly elections formed the ruling government with the support of the Goa Forward Party, MGP and two independents. Since then, BJP has strategized to continue holding office in the state.
Sawant held office in Goa in 2019 after he succeeded Manohar Parrikar. “In all probability, they (Singh and Sawant) will be repeated. However, the final decision is to be taken by the Parliamentary Board,” said a BJP leader.
