Karolina Muchova is a known name in the world of tennis, but so is her opponent, Sorana Cirstea. However, this time in the quarter finals of the ongoing US Open, Muchova proved why she is at No.10 seed through her skills and execution. While both the players were neck to neck, it was eventually the Czech professional who sealed a victory to enter the Semis and face off against Coco Gauff.
The brutal first set of the tournament
It is the second time that the 27 year old has succeeded in moving to the last four of a Grand Slam Tournament with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph in 1hr and 38 mins in front of the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd.
Initially, it was a brutal attack from Muchov’s side that caught the Romanian off guard as the former went on to make a double break for 3-0 in the first set.
However, Cirstea tried to bring the game in her favour, but that just didn’t appear to be in the cards. While she earned 9 breakpoints, she was unable to take a lead over Muchova, who conveniently held serve for 4-0.
The victory of Karolina Muchova
Fifth set again did not shift in favour of the Romanian professional and she suffered once more at the hands of the Czech tennis player. Although, the second set started off on a good note for Cirstea. She earned a break to go 2-0 up.
While things seemed to finally be capitalising for her, Muchova once again brought forth her A game. The decision break came during the seventh round where Cirstea couldn’t help but face 0-40 and then eventually hand over 4-3 lead to the Czech athlete.
After this point, the match was pretty much tipped toward Muchova. She, in the ninth set, went on to deliver a beautiful forehand and inscribed her name as a victor.
The next stop of Muchova shows confidence
Talking about her Tuesday win, Muchova stated herself to be in a great condition from the start till the end. She revealed to be having a good feeling with the ball from the start of the baseline. Along with that, she also enjoyed playing the net, slicing the ball and everything else that went under way.
Muchova commented on her relaxed mode and being in a good mental state. She gave the credit of reaching the semi-finals to this positive mindset. Her focus remains on trying to keep things easy for her going forward and not putting too much pressure of expectations on herself.
She referred to herself as a “tough cookie”, hence stating how being so helps with life, especially tennis. Some days favour you, some not so much! Her mindset hence remains constant, to keep a clear mind and be relaxed enough to enjoy the sport to its fullest.
Muchova praises upcoming opponent Coco Gauff
The Czech player was all praises for the American athlete. She called her very fit and athletic. And also referred to her as someone who never gives up, no matter what the situation might be. She sounded utterly impressed by the way the Tennis star runs for every single ball, avoiding as many errors as humanly possible on the court.
Looking at her journey till the upcoming match, Muchova also stated how impressed she was with Gauff’s range of strokes, playing all over the court. She mentioned not to take the teenager anyhow lightly and called her a very good player in all the aspects of the game.
All eyes now remain set on the semi-finals coming up, that will surely prove to be highly competitive. It is sure to be a close call of a match between the two equally exceptional players.
