2 Goods Train collide at Ondagram Railway station in Bengal’s Bankura, several trains cancelled.
At about 4:00 a.m. on 25th june, Sunday two trains collided on the tracks of Ondagram railway station in Bankura of West Bengal. One of the goods train hit the other train causing 12 wagons of the trains to derail. There are no casualities however the driver of one goods train has suffered minor injuries in the accident. The reason of the collision is still unclear. The collision lead to significant damage to the involved locomotives and carriages.
Reason for the collision of goods trains
The goods train outran the red signal, did not stop and collided with the BRN maintenance train. The train went into the loop line and hit the stationary freight train a senior South Eastern Railway official told PTI. “As of preliminary information, one of the goods trains was standing when it got hit by the other goods train. More details will be revealed after a detailed inquiry,” safety officer Dibakar Majhi told PTI.
Up line restored for train services
Within the hours of the goods train collision the Adra-Midnapore section was restored for normal train services and the first train passed through at 8:35a.m. “Up line is fit for train movement at 7.45 am. Some trains have been cancelled. The cause collision is yet to be ascertained. Efforts are on to assess the cause that led to the mishap,” said a South Eastern Railway official earlier.
Trains cancelled and diverted
As per the railway officials’ statement, “Both were empty goods trains and the reason for the accident and how both trains collided is still not clear. The train services in Adra division have been affected by this accident. ADRA Division serves four districts of West Bengal, viz. West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan and three districts of Jharkhand viz Dhanbad, Bokaro and Singhbhum, and it comes under the south-eastern Railway.”14 trains have been cancelled, 3 trains have been diverted and short terminated due to the derailment of the goods train at Ondagram station of Andra Division today, said by the South Eastern Railway.
