On Friday Google declared that it would delete users’ location history when they visit abortion clinics, domestic violence shelters, and also any other places where privacy is probed.
en Fitzpatrick, a senior vice president stated in a blog post that if their system identifies that any person has visited one of those places, they will delete those entries from Location History soon after the person’s visit. The change will be effective in the coming weeks.
There are other places as well from where Google will not store location data including fertility centers, facilities for addiction treatment, weight loss clinics, and so on. The declaration comes a week after US Supreme Court made the decision to clear out American women of Constitutional rights to abortion which has led several states to ban or restrict the procedure thereby prompting mass protests across the country.
Also, activists and politicians have been commanding and other tech giants to restrict the number of information people is collecting to avoid it being used by law implementation for the investigation and perpetuation of abortion.
Fitzpatrick also assured the user’s that Google takes data privacy earnestly. Adding to it she stated that Google has a long pathway of record of pushing back the demands that are broad from law enforcement.
