Mohammed Shami got the well-deserving man of the match title for the IPL match against Gujarat Titans as he sent Manish Pandey, Quinton De Kock on the benches at the beginning of the game after he hit the stumps of KL Rahul for a golden duck!
Pacer Mohammed Shami bowled fiercely in the opening over. Later, Rahul Tewatia took over to hit an unbeaten 40 runs and helped Gujarat Titans get a 5-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their maiden IPL match held on Monday, 28.03.22.
Shami (3/25) knocked the wind out of LSG’s top order by bowling fireballs at them. After that, Deepak Hooda of Gujarat Titans (55 off 41 balls) took over and Ayush Badoni (54 off 41 balls) hit the fifties to help their team get to the score of 158 runs at 6 wickets.
Skipper Hardik Pandya (33), all-rounder Tewatia (40 not out), Matthew Wade (30) and David Miller (30) got together to take the Titans over and above the edge. Apart from Shami’s three, Varun Aaron bowled to hit the stumps twice and got two wickets at the expense of 45 runs (2/45) while Rashid Khan (1/27) accounted for one batter for the Gujarat Titans. Dushmantha Chameera (2/22) was the pick of the bowlers for Super Giants.
Hardik had the ball in his court against his brother in the 9th over as he hit the last ball for a sixer. Mohsin Khan was brought back into the game to attack in the 10th over. That’s a two off his second ball and the 50-partnership got crushed for Hardik and Wade. The next ball smashed a four, making the score 72/2 at half the innings of the team.
Tewatia smacked a six at Hooda’s second ball in the 16th over. He goes downtown again and throws out a four straight down the field. About to get run out, the batter manages to keep his head in the game. It is now Miller’s turn to show LSG some hits. He smashes a four and then floods it by knocking off a sixer! Off the last ball of the over, it travelled quite some distance! What a magical over with 22 runs drained out of it nicely leaving Gujarat Titans at 113/4 after 16 overs.
