The Tragedy in Himachal
16 people have died in two separate incidents due to heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours, according to the state’s chief minister. A cloudburst occurrence in the Solan district last night claimed the lives of seven individuals, while a landslip at a Shiv temple in the Summer Hill neighbourhood of Shimla city claimed the lives of nine more, bringing the two-day total of fatalities to 21.
According to the Chief Minister, a Shiva temple in Shimla’s Summerhill neighbourhood collapsed, killing nine persons. The police reported that up to 50 individuals had gathered to worship at the temple.(India today)

Two kids died in Balera panchayat in Solan district when a landslip destroyed their improvised home. One of them was found to have a body.
According to Solan DC Manmohan Sharma, a second woman died in a landslip in the Banal hamlet of the Ramsheher tehsil.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur, the district’s constant rainfall caused three deaths and two missing persons. He urged everyone in the district to exercise extra caution in light of the poor weather and refrain from stepping outside needlessly.
In the late hours of Sunday night in the Seghli panchayat of Mandi district, a landslide claimed the lives of seven family members, among them a two-year-old. According to Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary, three individuals were saved.
According to Deputy Shimla Commissioner Aditya Negi, as reported by news agency PTI, two landslides in Shimla city are thought to have buried 15 to 20 people . The other location is in the Fagli neighbourhood, where a number of homes were submerged in soil and slush.
The Action Taken by the Government
There was a fire brigade crew on the scene. Rescue efforts were supported by the police and a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team.
Following the cloudburst at Solan’s Mamligh the town of Kandaghat subdivision, six persons have been rescued. Two residences and one cowshed were destroyed in the flood, reported news agency ANI.
According to Superintendent of Police for Solan, Gaurav Singh, the people who died have been identified as Harnam (38), Kamal Kishore (35), Hemlata (34), Rahul (14), Neha (12), Golu (8), and Raksha (12).
The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has encouraged citizens to stay inside and away from rivers and drains. In an interview with NDTV, he also asked residents to stay away from landslide-prone areas and suggested that tourists avoid the region while it is going through this calamity.
In a tweet, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences and stated that he has instructed the authorities to provide the affected families with all necessary support and assistance.
“Horrible cloudburst disaster at Village Jadon, Dhawla Sub-Tehsil, Solan District, which claimed 7 priceless lives, devastated to hear. My heartfelt condolences are with the bereaved families. In this hard moment, we feel your anguish and sorrow,” the Chief Minister’s Office tweeted.
“Personnel from the SDRF, NDRF, and Army are on the ground to carry out rescue operations and save lives. My scheduled event in Mandi has been cancelled. Independence Day activities on 15 August will proceed as scheduled, but saving lives is our first priority, according to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in response to the landslide disaster in Shimla’s Summer Hill neighbourhood,” reported ANI
All Educational Institutes Remain Closed
Following days of nonstop rain, Monday was a holiday for all state schools and colleges.
Government and private educational institutions in Mandi and Shimla were closed on August 14 as a result of a holiday declaration.
The state’s Department of Education announced the cancellation of all upcoming tests for Post Graduate classes, including the B Ed exams planned on August 14.
