Hema Malini said she is ‘very happy’ for Dharmendra when asked about the viral kiss
Veteran actor Dharmendra recently shared a kiss with fellow icon Shabana Azmi while playing long-lost lovers in Karan Johar’s family romcom drama ‘Rocky aur Rani kii Prem Kahaani,’ and the kiss became a subject of much discussion due to the actors rarely being intimate in films before this.
Dharmendra’s wife, Dream Girl Hema Malini reacted to the kiss saying she that though she has not seen it yet, she is “sure people have loved the film,” and she is “very happy for Dharam ji, because he loves to be in front of the camera all the time.” She was asked about the viral liplock as she attended her brother R.K. Chakravarty’s autobiography ‘Galloping Decades’s launch New Delhi.
In the film, Dharmendra and Shabana portray separated sweethearts who meet when their respective grandchildren, Rocky (Ranveer Singh) and Rani (Alia Bhatt) fall in love. They have their own ‘prem kahaani’ as the young couple has theirs.

Dharmendra spoke about the kiss at the film’s success meet after being playfully prodded to talk about ‘woh wala scene’ by Ranveer Singh. He responded with equal humour that though he hadn’t been able to attend the film’s premiere, he received several messages from fans. “Maine bola, ‘Yaar yeh toh mere daaye haath ka kaam hai’” (I can do this in my sleep) as the rest of the cast laughed. He continued, “Baaye haath se karwana hai, woh bhi karwa lo”(I can do it without effort).
In an interview with Anupama Chopra with Film Companion, Karan Johar said regarding the kiss scene, “Shabana ji is a master actor. There was no debate, no question. Dharam ji was like, ‘haan theek hai karna hai, fine’…It was glorious to see them.”
Meanwhile, Shabana told Zoom digital that shooting the scene was never an issue, and the crowds have been woohooing in cinemas as the pair kissed on-screen. She added humorously that while she hasn’t kissed much in her films, one wouldn’t mind kissing a man as handsome as Dharmendra.
