Indian Railways is the fourth-largest national railway system in the world by size. And RailTel played a core role in the modernization of Train operations and administration network systems in India.
RailTel Corporation of India Limited has set up high-speed Wi-Fi internet in over 6,000 railways stations in India to connect passengers and the general public with digital systems.Â
The high-speed Wi-Fi service at stations meets the objectives of the Modi government’s Digital India Program. The step of free wifi means to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural citizens. Â
RailTel confirmed that it is on the edge of offering high-speed Wi-Fi access at almost all the railway stations in India. The PSU also authenticate that out of the 6000 WiFi stations, more than 5,000 stations are situated in the rural parts of the country. Â
Because most of the rural areas of the country don’t proper internet service and today the world is powered by the internet every single day.
So, offering high-speed internet allowed millions to sign up with platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and also allowed them to download content to mobile devices. especially on the fixed-line front. But mobile connectivity is quite strong these days, and affordable for many to buy.
Thus, maximizing the digital footprint in the villages enhances the digital India scheme. Â
The plan of providing free high-speed Wi-Fi service at railways stations was formulated in 2015 when Google had a strong role in marketing and communicating about the service.
RailTel used Google’s knowledge to enhance and set up Wi-Fi across railway stations in the country. In this regard, RailTel played a central role to provide better services.Â
