On Sunday, a destructive hurricane Fiona entered Puerto Rico. Entire Puerto Rico is now powerless due to this hurricane. This hurricane has also caused landfall and catastrophic flooding.
According to sources, a similar type of hurricane maria hit Puerto Rico 5 years ago. Hurricane Maria devastated entire Puerto Rico. On Saturday, a hurricane warning was put up. Strong winds and heavy rains were threatening the island.
According to reports, the hurricane has washed away the bridge on the state highway and other highway outlets. The terrific incident occurred around 3:20 pm local time.
As soon as the hurricane occurred, it created a lot of chaos. As the incident could have created a lot of destruction, many of the areas were evacuated by government officials. Almost all the rivers of Puerto Rico are heavily flooded because of the hurricane. There were at least 8 to 12 inches of rain occurred
Hurricane Fiona has also caused landslides in many areas. The eastern coastline is the main affected area. Looking at the situation, US president Joe Biden has declared an emergency disaster declaration. This declaration would speed up the relief processes for the island.
As the hurricane occurred all of a sudden, it caused a major disruption to the power in Puerto Rico. The people/ company who manages the electricity are on the island looking out for a possible solution. As of now, the electricity is completely off throughout the island. The electricity department has made it possible to restore some amount of electricity during night time.
Luma energy, the company which manages electricity in Puerto Rico says that though they are able to restore some amount of energy at night, the absolute electricity throughout Puerto Rico may take days together.
In a recent news conference which was held on Sunday, it was said that the island directly entered the island. As of now, the hurricane has already caused a lot of destruction and it may take till next Monday to settle down and handle everything.
As per the eyewitness, Hurricane Fiona has already washed away the highways and roads. Significant roads and road bridges have been destroyed due to this hurricane. Due to poor climate conditions in Puerto Rico, airports, roads, and many places have been shut down. All the cars and vehicles have been flooded and dumped. Internet connection has also spiked off. There is also a scope of blackout. According to sources, there are 1.4 million tracked residents and 20 inches of rain are yet to come.
24 inches of rain are still expected to come. Many parrots were transferred. The island has demanded federal assistance. Emergency plans have been activated.
