Shah Faesal, former IAS officer from the state of Jammu and Kashmir, appointed as new Deputy Secretary in the Union Ministry of Culture. After shuffling between public service and politics few for years, Faesal chose to serve public again.

Shah Faesal is a former IAS officer from the state of Jammu and Kashmir who quit civil services around 2019. He emerged with his own political party later in the state which he quit again soon enough. Now after shuffling from between politics and civil service, Faesal has been again turned towards the public service.
Shah Faesal has been appointed as the new Deputy Secretary in the Union Ministry of Culture for four years. A notification from the government stated the new posting of the former IAS on August 30th.
“Shri Shah Faesal, IAS who was recommended for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the M/o Culture, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier. He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the M/o Culture,” informed the government’s notification.

It may be noted that as per ACC’s directions conveyed in DOP&T’s Circular No. 3/4/2004-EO (MM-I) dated August 17, 2005, an officer should join the post within three weeks from the date of issue of DOP&T’s appointment order, failing which the process of debarment from the Central Staffing Scheme shall be initiated,” added the notification.
Shuffling between Politics and Service
It was on March of 2019 when Shah’s launched his own political party, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM), with plans to contest in the assembly elections. However, he was arrested in the wake of political activism. He was detained under PSA after abrogation of Article 370.
After his release on August 2020, he decided to quit the politics and planned to move towards public service again. He applied for withdrawing his resignation in April this year which was not accepted by the government till now.
