Twenty-two YouTube channels were blocked on Tuesday by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) for’spreading misinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations, and public order’, according to the ministry.
Youtube is a video sharing platform owned by Google. It’s headquarters are located at San Bruno, California. You can upload your ow videos as well as see other people’s videos in Youtube. Four YouTube channels were based in Pakistan, out of a total of 22 channels. Apart from that, three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account, and one news website have all been suspended.
Apurva Chandra, I&B Secretary, stated that the Ministry had blocked 35 YouTube-based news channels and two websites earlier in January because they were involved in spreading misinformation about anti-India propaganda in a coordinated manner across digital media platforms, according to Chandra.
In his statement, Chandra claimed that the blocking orders were issued pursuant to emergency provisions of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which were in effect at the time of the orders’ issuance.
Indian intelligence agencies were keeping a close eye on these social media accounts and websites, and they alerted the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate action.
