Eden Garden
In Kolkata, West Bengal’s B.B.D. Bagh neighborhood, next to the Hooghly River’s banks, is where you’ll find Eden Gardens. The third-largest cricket stadium in the world, the venue can accommodate about 66,000 people. Since its founding in 1864, Eden Gardens has played host to numerous domestic and international cricket events.
Early in the 2010s, the stadium received significant renovations that included the building of additional stands, enhanced amenities, and improved seating arrangements.
The 1987 Cricket World Cup final, in which Australia defeated England to win their first-ever World Cup, was one of several historic cricket matches that took place at Eden Gardens. The stadium serves as the home field for the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With the help of their devoted home audience at Eden Gardens, the team won the IPL championship twice, in 2012 and 2014.
A match between India and Pakistan in 1993 was the greatest attendance at Eden Gardens, exceeding the stadium’s designated seating capacity with an estimated 100,000 people in attendance.
The Victoria Memorial, an architectural wonder that is visible from the stands, and the enormous Lord’s Bell replica, which sounds at the beginning and conclusion of each day’s play, are two of the stadium’s most recognisable elements.
In addition to serving as a cricket stadium, Eden Gardens represents India’s abiding love of the game and has had a vital impact on the development of Indian cricket.
