After missing the Asia Cup 2022 earlier this month due to an injury, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah of India made his return. Bumrah, who was rested for Friday’s victory by Rohit Sharma’s team over Australia in the second rain-delayed game, was back in the Indian playing XI (September 23).
However, Bumrah’s third T20I against Australia on Sunday (September 25) in Hyderabad was a night to forget. Jasprit Bumrah gave up 50 runs in a T20I innings for the first time in his career, despite India winning the game by six wickets to take the T20I series 2-1. In 2016, in Lauderhill against the West Indies, he had a costly period of 2/47.Â
After batting first and getting half-centuries from Tim David and Cameron Green, Aaron Finch’s team scored 186/7, with Bumrah finishing with figures of 0/50 in 4 overs. However, India scored their 21st T20I victory in 2022. India has now won the most T20I matches in a calendar year (21). Pakistan, their bitter opponents, triumphed in 20 games in 2022.
Suryakumar Yadav, who smacked 69 off 36 balls with five enormous sixes, was the driving force behind India’s victory. The record for breaking the most maximums (42) in a calendar year is now shared by Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan, the wicketkeeper for Pakistan, also hit a similar number of sixes in 2021.Â
Suryakumar is now second among Indian T20 international players in runs scored with 682. Shikhar Dhawan is at the top of the list after scoring 689 runs in 2018.
As India’s T20I captain, Rohit Sharma has now won the second-highest number of games (33) for his country. He outperformed Kohli, who had 32 triumphs. With 42 victories, MS Dhoni still holds the top spot.
