 Couture in India

India Couture Week 2020 was the first-ever Digital couture week held by the Fashion Design Council of India.

Since the Pandemic cancelled all kinds of events, from fashion shows to concerts, the FDCI had announced the Digital Couture Week in India. India Couture Week 2020 saw exquisite designs with themes like Inclusiveness and Nature.

Couture is a term that goes back to its French origins, which holds the meaning “High sewing”.

In India, Couture has relevance because Couture acts as a canvas for designers to use their creativity to showcase new forms of embroidery or create designs from some Inspiration.

India is known for its fine craftsmanship and artisanship, and something like Couture is the best way to present the country’s rich heritage.

Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, said that “Couture is the finest form of expression as it reveals the brand narrative, immaculate construction and design ideology in its truest element.”.

Mr Sethi also added that this year had seen an excellent response for the India Couture week, with 19 different countries taking part despite the Pandemic and making it one of the biggest and brightest Fashion Events.
